Lund University, Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts, Malmö Art Academy

The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts is a faculty within Lund University and includes Malmö Art Academy, Malmö Academy of Music and Malmö Theatre Academy, also Inter Arts Center and Choral Centre South. The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts offers Bachelor and Master programmes in visual art, music and drama, and various courses of different extent. The Faculty also runs third cycle (postgraduate) studies and research in the artistic field and music education.

Malmö Art Academy has about 75 students and offers programmes in Visual Arts at bachelor, master and doctoral level. Malmö Art Academy is a creative and stimulating learning environment with high artistic and educational goals, and a strong reputation in the art world. Malmö Art Academy has an international profile with a broad international network. We have many students and teachers from other countries than Sweden.

Admission

Admission is for four years of full-time study leading to a doctoral degree in Fine Arts. Research students are admitted in compliance with Lund University's admission rules for third cycle studies.

Work duties


The main task for doctoral students is to dedicate themselves to their third cycle studies, which entails running their own research project and attending research studies courses. The language of both tuition and the doctoral thesis is English. 



General entry requirements 

The general entry requirements for admission to third cycle studies in fine art are met by candidates who:

• hold a Master's degree

• have completed course requirements of at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits in the second cycle, or have acquired essentially equivalent knowledge in some other way, either within the country or abroad. The higher education institution may make exceptions from the general entry requirements for an individual applicant, if special circumstances apply. 



Specific entry requirements 


The specific entry requirements for admission to third cycle studies in fine art are met by candidates who:

• hold a degree of at least 240 credits within a study programme for visual artists or equivalent, and 

• have conducted artistic or curating work of an independent nature such that it enables the assessment of the applicant's suitability for this part of the study programme.



Grounds for assessment


• The project's artistic quality and feasibility within the set time frame (equivalent to 4 years of full-time study) 

• The project's research quality regarding research questions, relevance, originality, links and relevance to the collective field of knowledge and the quality of the method description 

• The applicant's suitability for artistic research work and their ability to benefit from research studies 

• The department's wishes for specialisation and opportunities for supervision

Instructions to applicants 
A portfolio and a research plan presenting the applicant's research project is to be attached to the application. The plan is to contain a project description, method description and a sketch of the implementation of the research project, including a schedule. Terms 

Fixed-term employment for four years pursuant to Chapter 5 Section 7 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
