CURATING ART AFTER NEW MEDIA - PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE

-- 'It was a real eye-opener and has really developed the way I can move forward with my career from now on. As a result of the course I ran a workshop this week with various staff, across learning, curatorial, and volunteering, and we were able to discuss digital media as ways to develop our practices.'
-- Course participant from UK

In one intensive week in central London, this course offers those working in art, culture and research the chance to update their skills, since emerging media changed how we think about exhibition, distribution and participation. The course will critically examine how contemporary curating can best match contemporary art practices, including networks, Critical Making, data, AI, or Open Source practices.

It offers a unique opportunity to meet with leading curators who work in diverse contexts. Visits to discuss with curators at organisations will include:
TATE
VICTORIA & ALBERT MUSEUM
THE PHOTOGRAPHERS' GALLERY
SOMERSET HOUSE
WELLCOME COLLECTION
SERPENTINE
FURTHERFIELD
and previous years have also included:
ODI (OPEN DATA INSTITUTE)
TENDERPIXEL
MACHINES ROOM

Now in its 7th year, this course is based on the firm foundation of Beryl Graham's publications and symposia including: New Collecting: Exhibiting and Audiences (Routledge) and Rethinking Curating: Art After New Media (MIT Press, co-authored with Sarah Cook); Commissioning & Collecting Variable Media Symposium, a collaboration with Contemporary Art Society at BALTIC, Gateshead.

Past course attendees have included curators and researchers from Hong Kong, Bahrain, India, USA, Canada, Austria, The Netherlands, Greece, Ireland, France and the UK, and the course includes taught sessions, access to online resource documents and papers, visits to arts organisations to discuss with curators, and documentation of knowledge-sharing with your fellow curators.

Some previous participants have received professional pevelopment GRANTS from their local arts councils or PhD training funders to attend this course.

-- 'It offered a wide variety of perspectives on professional practice that couldn't be obtained in such a short time any other way. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to expand their network and broaden their understanding of how curators do what they do.'
-- Course participant from USA

Course fee 2020: £997, plus VAT of £199.40 , Total £1196.40
