The George Washington University Division of Development and Alumni Relations is seeking a Director of Development, Major Gifts in the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences for principal liaison with the College's constituent school—The Corcoran School of the Arts and Design. This position will participate in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts for the School and in the support of the development strategy and management within the School.

Reporting to the Columbia College of Arts & Sciences AVP for Development and Alumni Relations, works with Dean, School Directors, faculty, and University Development and Alumni Relations Office, to identify priority needs and prospective donors for principal and major gift support.

Coordinates and collaborates with University Development staff to identify prospects, develop proposals, and cultivate strategic relationships with funding sources.

Works with the AVP of the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences, School Director, faculty, and University Development to identify major gift prospects related to the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences.

Works with the AVP of the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences, School Director and faculty, and volunteers to establish programs and strategies for the cultivation of identified major gift prospects, including strategic engagement and cultivation by volunteers, school directors, faculty and staff as appropriate.

Makes personal calls to solicit major gifts for the constituent units of the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design and the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences.

Works in conjunction with Alumni Relations on strategies for enhancing alumni engagement and loyalty to the Schools through specific events and activities.

Coordinates with other school-based and University Development officers on prospect assignments and fund raising strategies.

Supervises other gift officers and staff as assigned.

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 7 years of relevant professional experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Advanced degree in business administration, public administration, public relations, or a related field is preferred.

Seven years of fund raising experience, with specific experience in major gifts, relationship and volunteer management.

Previous experience in arts management, development, and creative disciplines preferred.

Strong communication skills.
