PLASTIK  FESTIVAL OF ARTISTS' MOVING IMAGE
in association with LUX, IFI and Temple Bar Gallery + Studios.

7th___22nd FEBRUARY 2015

PLASTIK is an inaugral international artists' moving image festival. The first of its kind in Ireland, it emerges through a collaboration between LUX Critical Forum (a meeting group for artist involved with the moving image) LUX, Irish Film Institute and Temple Bar Gallery + Studios.

With films by over fifty artists and filmmakers, including contemporary and historical work, PLASTIK takes place in venues across Galway, Cork and Dublin throughout the month of February, bringing international and Irish work together to form a distinct programme of artist film.

Through a focused programme of curated screenings, discussions and live performance, PLASTIK creates a new platform for considerations of approaches to artists' moving image, highlighting the cross pollination between experimental film and visual art contexts. The cinema context is a central concept to the festival which will showcase a range of positions and possibilities reflecting, in particular, on the role played by curatorial practice in how we understand and make sense of this ever expanding field. A programme of panel discussions and talks take place throughout the festival, which invite key participants in fields of critical thinking, artistic and curatorial practice to reflect on issues and concepts surrounding contemporary artists' moving image.

PLASTIK Galway, subtitled A State Within a State is curated by Megs Morley and explores essay and political film, featuring works by artist such as Duncan Campbell, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Anja Kirschner & David Panos, Louis Henderson and the Museum of Non-Participation (Brad Butler & Karen Mirza) alongside a tribute to the work of Harun Farocki.

PLASTIK Cork subtitled Phenomenal Love is curated by Aoife Desmond and considers themes of Expanded Cinema and structural film through a series of live performances and screenings including a new performance from New York based artists Luis Recoder and Sandra Gibson.

PLASTIK Dublin is a three day event, featuring a series of guest-curated programmes by leading international curators and artists including Gerard Byrne & Sarah Pierce, Filipa Ramos (Vdrome) Peter Taylor (International Film Festival Rotterdam) and Guillaume Breton (Rowing Projects) As well as feature screenings that focus on the work of artist, filmmaker Christoph Schlingensief and David Gatten. London based artist Hannah Sawtell will perform a unique audio visual performance on Saturday evening and a series of talks and discussions also take place in Temple Bar Gallery + Studios with guest speakers Benjamin Cook (LUX) Isla Leaver Yap (LUX Scotland) George Clark (TATE) Regina Barunke (Temporary Gallery) Jesse Jones (artist) and Lucy Reynolds.
