pietmondriaan.com open studios, 19-20-21 February 2014

/pos (pietmondriaan.com online studios) is an online residency program initiated in 2013 by the art blog pietmondriaan.com. It is shaped as a virtual building with several studios, in which artists are invited to work for a period of two months, in parallel with the blog's growing archive. Each studio starts as a blank, open space for the artist to 'move in to' and to work with.

Online research is a substantial part of most artists' practice, but is perhaps overlooked as an intermediary stage towards producing work. /pos aims to create an online environment to contextualize and materialize this research in an early stage, in order to be able to show and share it.

The residency is aimed at artists who work across a variety of mediums, with images, video, sound and/or language. The selection for /pos is based on a certain affinity with the works shown on pietmondriaan.com. Artists define their own plan for conducting their residency, while being able to use the blog's archive as a reference.

For /pos, an artist and a writer are invited to occupy one floor of the virtual building simultaneously, bound by common ways of working or similar interests. Their combined residencies provide the opportunity to interact, reflect or just follow each other. At the end of each residency period, the studio and its contents remain accessible to visitors.

Open studios

The first open studio event to present the artists in /pos starts today, the 19th of February 2014. Every visitor to pietmondriaan.com will be redirected to the /pos page.

Craig Leonard (CAN) and Ryan Ormonde (UK)

Sol Hashemi
(US) and Susan Gibb (AU)
