The Stockholm County Council Cultural Administration invites artists to apply for proposal opportunities for three outdoor sites at en-trance floor level at the new emergency treatment building at Dan-deryd Hospital in Stockholm.
Background
The population of the Stockholm area is constantly growing. To meet the county's increasing needs for medical care, Stockholm County Council is investing in several major new construction and development projects. Among them is a new emergency treatment building at Danderyd Hospital.
The commission
Artists are invited to create public artworks to transform the entrance square, the large inner courtyard and the staff entrance at the new emergency treatment building at Danderyd Hospital.
Through the artworks at the three sites, the commission aims to give the outdoor environment at the entrance level of the building a distinct identity, and link the areas together conceptually.
A good understanding of the special circumstances that characterise emergency care is crucial to the commission. Patients and relatives often find themselves in a situation in which they feel vulnerable, and it is therefore important that the artistic elements, in harmony with their surroundings, exude a sense of caring and thereby support the work of the hospital.
The site presents opportunities for sculptures, light installations, installations, reworking of ground coverings, etc. The artworks should ideally work as an integral part of the landscape design and lighting to contribute to a coherent and dynamic impression.
Several artists will be invited to create proposals for the commission. Based on the proposals, one artist will be selected to carry out the commission and finalise the artwork.
