Artecinema is an international film festival of documentaries regarding contemporary art, established in Naples in 1996, with the objective of making various facets of contemporary art known to the public at large.

Each year, Artecinema presents a selection of some thirty documentaries from the world over about international artists, architects and photographers who have worked during the last fifty years.

Japanese artist, Susumu Shingu, creates sculptures powered by the forces of nature: wind, water, sun and the force of gravity. His dream is to elicit a more intimate dialogue with mother Earth, thus awakening a new awareness of our planet.

Architect Tadao Ando creates minimalist environments in a synthesis of traditional Japanese design and modernism. The film accompanies him as he discusses and explains various projects he has designed in Italy and Japan.

The works of Leonardo Drew, realized with materials such as wood, steel, canvas and paper, express the tension between order and chaos.
Cuban artist Tania Bruguera sets up participatory events which delve into the themes of social control and migration. The director accompanied her to Queens during the realization of her Immigrant Movement International Project.

Twenty years after their escape from the Soviet Union, artists Ilya and Emilia Kabakov returned to Moscow to exhibit their work. The film provides a glimpse of life during the Soviet era and demonstrates how art and irony can transcend oppression.

Erwin Wurm is known for his ironic One Minute Sculptures, in which he himself or volunteers become sculptures for one minute, posing in bizarre manners with everyday objects.

William Kentridge
presents the Tevereterno project. The retaining walls of the Roman river become the frame work of a narration of the history of Rome in images.
The multimedia, interactive installations of Studio Azzurro are a unique example of inter-disciplinary creativity.
The advanced technology of the Google Art Project has made it possible to virtually visit the MoMa in New York, the Tate Gallery in London and the Uffizi in Florence.

LE ROLEX LEARNING CENTER

The Learning Center is a wave of cement and glass built on the shores of Lake Léman in Lausanne based on the designs of Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of the studio SANAA, winner of the Pritzker Prize in 2010. One of the most striking features of this innovative architectural structure is the lack of physical divisions between areas which is a key element of this multifunctional site dedicated to knowledge.

Thomas Hirschhorn realizes a participatory work of art with the residents of the Forest Houses Complex in the Bronx: the ambitious Gramsci Monument.
Wolfgang Laib works with ephemeral material such as wax and pollen, creating archetypical forms.
Joan Jonas, a pioneer of performance and videoart, juxtaposes performance, sculpture and drawing.

JOANA VASCONCELOS: TIME MACHINE

The film features the realization of Joana Vasconcelos' exhibit at the Manchester Art Gallery. The artist transforms everyday objects into sculptures and installations.

Following the tsunami of March, 2011 in Japan, a group of architects headed by Toyo Ito realize a Home-for-All: a place where people can feel at home, meet, rest and speak of the future.

From 2009 to 2013, Daniel Buren designed the street furniture for the Tours Tramway. The film focuses on the preparatory phases of the project.

Cornelia Parker is known for her large-scale installations in which fragments of objects are suspended almost as if stopping time.
