What is the global scenario of artistic production and exhibition making practices in respect to the art markets? In the last twenty years, contemporary art has broadened its horizons, as biennials and international shows have generated an exchange of cultures and a reflection on their relationship - starting from the idea that contemporary art is mostly positioned as being universal and readable everywhere. New art markets have developed in parallel, especially in China, to the 'old' western-centered system.
The latest developments show us that these systems differ a lot, not only content wise but also in the specific ways of the structure of wealth and the circulation of art commodities. International auction houses, art fairs and art academies have responded to this increasing interest opening new branches and expanding into new territories. Private institutions have flourished in countries where historically no state support has been funding contemporary art, on the initiative of companies and collectors. At the same time, huge cuts in culture budgets are changing also the structure of funding of the arts in Europe, with corporate sponsors, private foundations and individuals gaining an ever- growing prominent position, as the state withdraws. The entanglement of market, private collectors and institutions is developing into new models of cultural production and consumption on both sides, which need to be understood in their specificity.

With curating expert Dorothee Richter (head of the Postgraduate Programme in Curating, ZHdK, IKT international curators association member) and Silvia Simoncelli (lecturer at Postgraduate Programme in Curating and course leader of the Advanced Course in Contemporary Art Markets, Naba, Milan, previously International expert liaison, Sotheby's).

A summer school workshop for students and external guest students, with examples, readings and discussions, talks and screenings. In cooperation with international galleries, auction houses, collection, museums and art fairs.
