The Hannah Maclure Centre (HMC) is working in collaboration with Yuck 'n Yum to offer an artist the opportunity to undertake a residency with a science twist. The selected artist will spend up to 4 days in the School of Contemporary Sciences' Division of Environment and Forensics exploring revolutionary forensic techniques.

By manipulating print visualisation techniques, Abertay University scientist Dr Kevin Farrugia's research has been able to recover 'invisble' fingerprints and shoe prints from different surfaces such as fabric, fruit and laminate flooring. The selected artist will work alongside Dr Farrugia to learn these techniques and understand his ground breaking research.

The artist will then have the opportunity to work in the Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) Print Studio to develop ideas inspired by their time in the forensics lab.

During the residency the artist will have a network of support, including the HMC and Yuck 'n Yum Teams.

The outcome of this residency will be presented at the inaugural Print Festival Scotland (hosted in Dundee 28th August -1 September 2013), which features the acclaimed Impact 8 International Printmaking Conference. There will be opportunity for the artist to display and distribute work within the context of the festival and to network with the 300 delegates expected to attend the conference.
Impact 8 will be a celebration of inter-disciplinarity and aims to confirm the cultural diversity, historical significance and future potential of print.
While we realise that it may be difficult for you to predict exactly how you would interpret the influence of this experience of forensics research within your art practice, we are seeking a proposal that outlines how you might approach this residency, and the potential outcomes you would hope to produce. We are open to receiving proposals from artists working in a variety of disciplines; from printmaking to moving image, installation to performance.
