Spring Season
Whitworth Art Gallery
To 16 June 2012

Whitworth Art Gallery is delighted to announce its spring 2013 exhibition programme, including solo presentations of work by John Piper, Michael Landy, Nancy Holt, Richard Long, Callum Innes and Beryl Korot. Celebrating the Whitworth's existing contemporary collection of works on paper and textiles, and the Gallery's unique relationship to its surrounding environment as the first English gallery to be founded in a park, the Spring Season aims to challenge existing notions of what landscape art means today.

Spring Season | Event highlight:

Saturday Supplement
Saturday 2 March, 11am to 4pm. Free, no need to book.

A chance to see the new exhibitions, meet some of the exhibiting artists and hear a musical response to John Piper: The Mountains of Wales.

1pm American artist Beryl Korot introduces her installation Text and Commentary (1976-7), inspired by the relationship between the Jacquard loom and Charles Babbage, the originator of the idea of the programmable computer. Beryl Korot was an active player in New York's emergent video art scene in the 1970s and Is a pioneer of multichannel installations.

2.30pm Callum Innes discusses his exhibition of recent oil paintings and new watercolours made especially for the Whitworth. Callum Innes is one of Britain's best-known abstract painters. He was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1995 and his work is held in public collections worldwide including the Guggenheim, New York; National Gallery of Australia; Tate, London; and Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
