Ludic Interfaces is a Masters Degree programme on a European level. This programme is jointly developed by the University of Salford (United Kingdom), the Polytechnical University in Valencia (Spain) and the University of Art & Design in Linz (Austria). At the crossroads of Art, Design and New Media the programme explores playful practices and theoretical foundations of the new creative-artistic field of Ludic Interfaces. Ludic Interfaces are devices connecting human actors in a playful manner with technical systems. The quality of playfulness opens up new ways of dealing with creative potential and enables possibilities of invention within the field of artistic development and research.

Ludic Interfaces is a four semester artistic-scientific course of study to give potential media artists, creatives and media entrepreneurs a solid training in innovative interaction and interface design. Based on artistic design methods in areas related to media-art and -theory, pervasive computing, mobile art, as well as new hybrid fields such as critical engineering, open design and cross media gaming. In addition to the courses and topics offered locally at the University of Art and Design in Linz, the partner universities provide process-oriented and project-based intensive workshops in creative games and modding art coordinated by experts and practitioners from interdisciplinary fields.

The Masters Programme is taught at the three partner universities and is organised in teaching modules to provide a consistent learning and training experience at the three partner countries. In addition to that, cooperations with media centres, exhibition halls and festivals such as the Ars Electronica Center in Linz, the Transmediale Festival in Berlin and the MediaCityUK in Salford offer placement and research options for students of Ludic Interfaces.
