Pleasant Praise God Paintings (FRESHPOP)

The exhibition brings a collection of common canvas of two Slovak painters: Vladimír Popovič (1939) and Viktor Frešo (1974). Authors from different generations has common intermediate background and experiences of group work - Popovič mainly in 60ies (movie, theater of paintings, actions), Frešo mainly in the last decade (Egoart, Fifty-fifty group, Binderfresh, Frešo-Koller, Frešo - Dokoupil).

In this paint debate, which originated in the year 2013, they have obviously different aims and temperaments. While Frešo is more a director of painting field with energetic expressive gesture, massive color base; Popovič acts in the role of narrator, animator of shared paint on canvas. Mainly his female figures creates imaginary figural stories, almost film sequences or consequence of records.

Frešo builds on paintbrush stroke, elementary gesture with centrifugal droplets of color. While Popovič models lyrical situations in drawing, in line, with restrained rhythm of stencils. Through the alley of dematerialized mountain women of Tatras he brings a chamber poetics and erotic to canvas, playfulness and fragility of scene. In front of canvas of both actors we witness an intimate dialogue in painting, little summer 'celebration in painting garden'.
