From the 19th of January to the 9th of March 2013, the newest series of the Dusseldorf-based artist Michael Reisch, 14/, will be exhibited at Hengesbach Gallery. The works in the 14/ series use photography to simulate representationalism and yet no longer represent a single concrete object. There is no actual referent for that which is portrayed. Likewise, the works in the series 14/ imitate the medium of photography. Although one tends to see these works as photographs, nothing is genuinely photographic about the works, other than being on photographic backing paper. Reisch's series 8/ is logically related to these newer works: the series figuratively remains totally abstract and like 14/ concentrates on the dissipation of the genuinely photographic. We will also be showing a selection of his series 8/ in a parallel group-show Z-LAND.

The invented concept Z-LAND attempts to subsume four various approaches of abstract photography and video art. LAND has deliberately been chosen as a word with more than one meaning: it refers to the earth as a continent, an element, a landscape, home or an idea of reality. The letter Z has been chosen as the prefix since its form brings the aesthetic nuances of the exhibition together: two parallel lines connected by a diagonal line, which supports but also separates them. The entanglement of syntactic blanks and semantic margins of the exhibition title also plays a decisive role in the shown works. In Z-LAND, Eno Henze, Mihai Grecu & Thibault Gleize, Heinz Hajek-Halke and Michael Reisch all focus on such an 'in between' of fixed and unfixed connotations.

We would like to cordially invite you and your friends to the opening on the 18th of January 2013 at 6 pm.
