The Adventures of Sissi and Sissi at Bundesministerium, Vienna

katze und krieg had been living for three months in the castle garden of castle Laudon in Vienna. With time, the new environment transformed them. They started to wear splendiferous ball gowns, took their time to make up themselves and to style their hair. They became graceful princesses. Armed with a videocamera, they broke up for excursions to the heart of Vienna. Always they asked a passerby to film them while they satisfy their needs and their longings in a quite unusual behavior in the everyday life of one of the most bourgeois, decadent and squared cities of the world. From the videos katze und krieg edited the movie The adventures of Sissi and Sissi.

But it is not over yet. For the Vernissage of the exhibition the princesses will break off again for another adventure in Vienna.

The performance as well as the video of the Adventures of Sissi and Sissi will be shown at the 17th of September 2012 at 17:00 h at the Vernissage at the Bundesministerium für Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur at Concordiaplatz 2 in Vienna in Austria. Afterwards the exhibition will be open from the 18th until 28th of September from mondays to fridays between 10:00 and 17:00 h.

The adventures of Sissi and Sissi is the second part of a global adventure-series from katze und krieg. The adventure-series is both, an ongoing videoproject as well as an ongoing live intervention into different environments. In places of the world where katze und krieg stay, the new and strange environment transforms them into specific new characters, characters which are inspired by the site. In these characters katze und krieg start to interact with the space and the people surrounding them. In that way the fictional characters influence the social structure they met. katze und krieg document their actions via videocamera and produce for every stay a film, which reflects the structures, possiblities and borders of behavior and identity of the site itself.

katze und krieg are two german performance artists – Katharina Sandner and Julia Dick, who work together since 2007. Their aim is to quarrel  with people and situations in everyday life. By these experience influenced they develop their work. They perform in the everyday world itself and in puplic spaces, places which are familiar with everybody and deadlocked in their structure. There, katze und krieg implant their fiction by the use of interventions. The created play modus enables them and the people around to behave and to communicate in an other kind of way. By this means katze und krieg try to transform encountered situations and to change the everday life reality.
