Albert Gusi. Landscape in mind
The starting point for Albert Gusi's work is usually photography. His creations include landscape interventions and group performances that take photographic exploration closer to the performing arts and process art.
This exhibition features Gusi's latest works and projects commissioned by the CDAN that are related to Huesca's landscape. Albert Gusi has 'ironed' the mountain wind to make it visible, created the first photograph taken above a tripoint (where the borders of three countries meet), and simulated a cloud of smoke on Montsacopa Volcano in an action witnessed by hundreds and selected for the Young European Artists Network Biennial. His drive to invent new processes has led him to launch a rocket with a cargo of photographic paper and chemicals into the troposphere, make photographic reconnaissance planes, and recreate the pitch of the Camp Nou Stadium (home of FC Barcelona) in the countryside.
His work reflects a new conception of photography and an unusual approach characterised by observation, poetry and humour. Gusi draws attention to the vulnerability of the landscape and the way it is constantly being transformed. Land is central to his work; he interprets and caresses it to show its playful side, but also gives us a sense of the poetry it embodies.
The exhibition is an opportunity to learn more about Gusi's methods and his complex, polyhedral work, whose common denominator is the theme of 'land', which he explores using photographic tools and based on an original, generous perspective. Gusi likes to get people involved in his projects by inviting them to use the tools he has created, such as his 'photographic extenders', or navigate their way around a projected spherical image using a Wii remote.
Visitors will play a key role in the exhibition by providing images that will be displayed alongside Gusi's work and interact with it. The pieces showcased reach beyond the exhibition space and overcome the limitations usually imposed by a camera.
