At the Turn of the Year: Specials and News
'Is surrealism the analogue Internet? Was Prague cooler than Paris 80 years ago? Is sex pornographic? This book answers all the questions of modern day, keen on culture hipsters with French elegance and cleverness.' It is with these words that author and columnist Maxim Biller praises the catalogue for the exhibition 'Against all Reason. Paris – Prague' as being the illustrated book of the year.

Surrealism Today:
Gert and Uwe Tobias, Exhibition From 16.01. - 11.04.2010, Opening on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 7 p.m.

The Rudolf-Scharpf-Gallery, which is partner to the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum, is set to stage the next grand opening within the framework of the exhibition 'Against all Reason. Paris –Prague'. The two international shooting stars Gert and Uwe Tobias (*1973) will show about 50 drawings and collages, which the twin brothers from Cologne produced especially for this exhibition. Soaked in rich colors, their works depict a variety of specter like figures, appearing like ghosts against diffuse backgrounds. Besides these, the exhibition shows pieces of a series of works begun in 2004. In these so-called typewriter drawings letters, numbers and punctuation marks form faces, grimaces or skulls and mark a graphically reduced counterpart to the more pictorial watercolors and collages. The exhibition clearly demonstrates the highly experimental and innovative approach of the two artists far beyond their occupation as wood engravers.

'Surrealism, Madness and Psychoanalysis',
Specialist Conference at Prinzhorn Collection

Since the end of November the exhibition 'Surrealism and Madness' complements the big art show in Ludwigshafen: Thomas Röske presents about 120 paintings, drawings and prints at the Prinzhorn Collection in Heidelberg. Furthermore, the specialist conference 'Surrealism, Madness and Psychoanalysis' will also take place at the Prinzhorn Collection from January 29 to 31. It will follow the traces of famous surrealists such as Dalí and Breton up to those of psychoanalysts like Freud and Lacan.
