ALPES - ART, LOCATION, LANDSCAPE, SOUND SPACE
The ALPes programme is a postgraduate course, an experimental laboratory, combining practical and theoretical approaches in the public domain.
By examining the broad context of contemporary art (architecture, fallow land, suburban zones, and landscapes) and considering the broad diversity of acts on this domain, it becomes possible to exercise a propositional relationship in response to the constraints and possibilities of a commission.
To create a different type of encounter between the public and plastic creation and to explore new forms of perception by moving the exhibition, ALPes works on the juxtapositions between the contrived and the commonplace, public and private, globalisation and art scenes.
The ALPes postgrad is open to art, or equivalent, school graduates. Professional experience is desirable.
The programme offers a coherent set of seminars, conferences and courses giving the conceptual bases of research by bringing together HEAD professors and external partners. Works are carried out on territories, architectural and public sites proposed within the framework of partnerships.
Related to the research project a critical essay is structured in collaboration with the tutors. Thus, each participant must propose his/her own theoretical experiment related to his/her own plastic proposals.
RESOURCES & PARTNERS
The interventions of specialists, theoreticians and practicians, are adapted to various rhythms and modalities (conferences, meetings in and out of the School, project follow-ups). Some of these participate in the programme on a regular basis such as :
- Maryline Billod (art historian, espace Piano Nobile, Geneva),
- Olivier Kaeser and Jean-Paul Felley (espace d’arts contemporains attitudes Geneva),
- Christophe Laurens (architect, ENSAPM, Paris),
- Abdelkader Damani (interdisciplinary curator, Lyon);
- Jacques Demierre, Vincent Barras, Thierry Simonot (sound specialists, Geneva).
In 2007-2008, Gilles Tiberghien, philosopher (Paris); Jean-Marc Besse, geographer (Lille) and Alain Léveillé, urban planner (Geneva), took part in the « See (the world) on the map and see it on the road» seminar.
Under the leadership of Abdelkader Damani, « Recycling and urbanity », brought together the participants of the ALPes course along side Patrick Bouchain (architect), Alain Navarro (engineer) and François Guéry (philosopher).
They worked on a vacant urban site (project run jointly with the Ecole supérieure d’architecture of Grenoble and METRO, Grenoble urban community).
The « Laboratory of possible worlds » (Head-Geneva research programme) and the espace d’arts contemporains attitudes co-moderated a round table on the challenges of the exhibition with the participation of artists such as Fabrice Gygi, Alain Bublex, Didier Rittener.
