On 11 April 2017, EMPTY CUBE will return to the Appleton Square gallery, in Lisbon, Portugal, to present a work by artist Fala Mariam. This project, which will feature the artist herself, alongside a guest, the cellist Helena Espvall, was especially conceived for this event, which will consist of a single, unrepeatable presentation.
This ephemeral work, 'The Swimmer, Resenha e Som: 3 imagens por Fala Mariam, 2009-2016', invites us to share two expressive forms of the artist's language, both of them closely connected with time as one of the coordinates that allow the creative act to manifest as a visual and sound event. The project is intimately linked to the conceptual attributes of EMPTY CUBE as a temporally defined event, and also to the spatial and architectural circumstances in which it takes place, questioning its taxonomy and role as a space in which art is looked at and artistic discourse is meditated upon.

Fala Mariam adds a new element (which can only be experienced when looking at the work in performance) to the manner in which viewers will engage, during this unique occasion, with the temporary space of EMPTY CUBE, with the gallery that hosts it and with the dialogue between musical composition, drawing and painting.

This multidisciplinary project was composed by Fala Mariam and performed by Fala Mariam and Helena Espvall; it also features Sei Miguel as copyist and arranger.

The work will be photographically documented and posted on the project's site – www.emptycube.org
