Open Call for the 'Forums for an Attitude'

The five forums at Depot Basel take place simultaneously to the exhibition 'Forum for an Attitude' at the Vitra Design Museum Gallery in Weil am Rhein.
What's happening in the Forums?
During the Forums, there will be regulars' tables, book forums, lectures, discussions, workshops, experiments, movie nights, talks, joint meals and exhibition visits. The contents acquired in the Forums will be merged into a small publication in Spring 2016.
Forum 1 – Solidarity / 16. – 18. October 2015
A weekend celebrating the importance of the personal and professional togetherness: With talks and lectures concerning solidarity as base for action. What can connectedness through collective ideas, activities and goals signify with regard to collaboration?
Forum 2 – Visibility / 05. – 08. November 2015
'Embedded' practice as socio-political action vs. the prevalent public display. How visible do we have to be, where and with what? Considerations and experiments on responsible action within and with the public sphere. And a trial to visualize possible agitation- and representation spaces.
Forum 3 – Intuition / 19. – 22. November 2015
A collective search of children and adults for the right amount of impartiality. Exhibition of the results of a workshop series concerning the mediation of design with third-graders from the Schulhaus Insel in Basel.
Forum 3 is open for everyone without application.
Forum 4 – Knowledge / 10. – 13. December 2015
Suitable situations for knowledge production: Maximum institutionalization, total autonomy or something in between? A workshop on the curriculum of a sustainable curriculum for design studies.
Forum 5 – Tools / 21. – 24. January 2016
What kind of instruments and strategies are needed for professional action in the new scopes? A collective approach to the adequate means and ways for a responsible action. And also the acquisition of a respective glossary.

General
Spoken language within the Forums is English. Saturday from 20:00 every Forum is open to the public – with exception of Forum 3: It is open in the daytime and accessible to everyone.
Participation
The participation in the Forums does not only serve the professional and content related exchange, but also the fostering of community during leisure time and while having meals. In the Forums, neither the affiliation to disciplines nor any given hierarchies matter.
We ask you to think about the Forum's theme beforehand and assume an active and committed presence.
Application
Fill in 'Attitude is...' and describe briefly your motivation and interest connected to the Forum's topic.
Send an email with the subject: 'Forum for an Attitude – Title of the Forum which you would like to participate in' to Rebekka Kiesewetter rk@depotbasel.ch.
Deadline
for the application is two weeks before each of the Forums. The amount of places is limited. Upon your application you will receive further information concerning the schedule and the other participants.
Arrival
Each Forum will begin on Thursday evening and end on Sunday early evening – with the exception of Forum 1. The participation in a Forum requires a punctual arrival and an attendance until Sunday.

Depot Basel will not cover the costs for your journey and overnight stay.

Contribution towards expenses
Depot Basel asks for a contribution of CHFR 100.00.- for meals, drinks and material during the Forum.
