Conditions of Entry

Competition organiser and aim

Since inaugurating the Linocut Today prize in 1989, the city of Bietigheim-Bissingen has been awarding it every three years. The aim of the competition is to support contemporary artists working in the linocut technique and to encourage others to use it. From the Beginning the Linocut Today prize has been generously supported by Deutsche Linoleumwerke Bietigheim-Bissingen.

Linocut Today involves three prizes of € 5000, € 3000 and € 2000 respectively. All the works that are awarded a prize are then acquired for the linocut collection of the Städtische Galerie Bietigheim-Bissingen. Furthermore, the prize-winning works, another three acquisitions by the jury and all the other works selected by the jury are shown in an exhibition at the Städtische Galerie Bietigheim-Bissingen. An exhibition catalogue is also published.

Conditions for participation
The competition is open to all professional artists; there are neither regional nor national restrictions. Only works created exclusively or mainly using the linocut technique can be submitted. If the work involves a combination of techniques, these must be declared. The submitted works must had been produced in 2014 or 2015 and should not have been entered for any other competition. All the works must be available for purchase.

Preliminary round

Each artist can submit a maximum of three works. In the preliminary round, an internal jury decides, on the basis of photographs (at least 13x18 cm) or computer print-outs (DIN A4), which artists will be invited to enter original works for the final round of the competition.

Photographs and/or computer print-outs and the completed participation forms should be sent to:

Städtische Galerie
Hauptstr. 60-64
D-74321 Bietigheim-Bissingen

Deadline for the preliminary round is December 4, 2015

To facilitate the work of the jury, the quality of the pictures of the works envisaged for the competition must be as expressive as possible. Only the postal submission of your own photos or computer print-outs guarantees that the image quality and the colour fidelity correspond to your wishes and artistic intentions. Since we want to ensure equal opportunities to all applicants, we cannot accept online applications.

The application forms pertaining to this preliminary round will not be returned to the applicants.

The result of the preliminary round will be announced and the invitations to submit the originals sent out in late January. Unless you have specified your email address on the participation form, you will be notified by email, otherwise by mail.

Final selection
The artists chosen in the preliminary round will be requested to submit their original works for the final selection. The works must be submitted unframed. Originals submitted without having been requested by the gallery will not be included in the competition.

The works can be sent by post to the Städtische Galerie between February 1 and March 3, 2016, or can be delivered personally to the gallery between Monday 29 February and Thursday 3 March 2016 (from 8:00-12:00 a.m. and from 2:00-4:00 p.m.).
