Call for application Postgraduate art program ENSBA Lyon

The Ensba Lyon offers a one-year postgraduate program for five international artists who have acquired a Master's degree (or DNSEP).

It aims at creating the conditions to enact and support a position in the contemporary art field for emerging artists. It stimulates the articulation of practice, research, discourse, critical reflection, and socialisation through individual and collective practices.

Promoting transmission rather than education, the postgraduate program based in the School of Fine Arts, Lyon, invites five young artists from different geographical backgrounds who are already actively engaged in the art practice.

During this year-long program the artists are invited to elaborate on their individual practice and will be given full access to the school's facilities and studios. The development of individual work will be challenged through constant critical interaction, the creation of collective research and exhibition projects and opportunities to travel and meet with international artists and art practitioners.

Recent projects initiated by the postgraduate group took place at: Santiniketan University, Bengal, India; Temporäre Galerie, Cologne; Parkur, Lisbon.

Long-term partnerships are settled between the postgraduate program and the Lyon Biennial, Lyon, and the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin.

The postgraduate art program Lyon 2015–16:
–This 15th session will include five young artists for a one-year residency.
–During the selection process, the jury will focus on the autonomy of the artist, demonstrable artistic qualities and the potential for exchange and dialogue.

The 15th session 2015–16 will focus on The Theater of Conflicts, a one-year collaboration with Den Danske Scenekunstskole, the Danish School for Performing Arts in Copenhagen. This project will revolve on the political and aesthetic legacy of documentary theatre, and its enactment in contemporary times. It will involve the contribution of international artists, directors, actors, theoreticians and activists, and will aim at producing a collective work.


Supervision:
François Piron is an art critic and curator. He is a founder member of the independent exhibition space castillo/corrales in Paris and the publishing house Paraguay Press, and has organized numerous exhibitions, recently at Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo, the City Gallery in Prague, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris and the Museo Nacional Reina Sofia in Madrid.

Material conditions:
–The successful candidates will each receive a grant of 4,000 EU, paid in two installments.
–Collective accommodation is offered to the residents on the site of the art school.

Conditions for admission to the postgraduate course:
–Applicants must hold a higher diploma (Master's degree) from a recognized national or international school of art, architecture, etc.
–A shortlist will be drawn up on the basis of the applications.
–Admission consists of an interview with a jury composed of the school director, the program supervisor, and two international artists and curators.
–Knowledge of French and English is mandatory.
