The researcher will be registered in the third cycle of the Ensba Lyon for a period of one year. They will be provided with a research grant of 2,000 euros, to which is added a sum corresponding to the registration fees of the Ensba Lyon. This first year may be followed by two supplementary years, upon validation by the two research directors of the ACTH.

This call for applications is open to any and all graduate artists desiring to contribute, through their work as authors, and individual research, to the collective endeavour of the research group.

The jury will be made up of the Director of the Ensba and the Vice Director in charge of higher education, both of the ACTH research directors, a theoretician-researcher and an artist researcher from the group. The jury's decision will be based on the individual application and will consider the artistic activity of the applicant in addition to their approach to theoretical questions linked to this activity.

Knowledge of French is essential. Other languages: Italian, German, English.

The ACTH research group is the result of an association of two institutions, the Ensba Lyon and the Centre de Théorie et d'Histoire de l'Art (CETHA) of the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), Paris. The unit is under the direction of Bernhard Rüdiger, artist, and Giovanni Careri, theoretician and art historian. The group brings together artists from the third cycle of the Ensba Lyon, doctoral students from the EHESS and associated artists and researchers.

The group is part of the pilot project of a third cycle based on the specific nature of art research within the Ensba Lyon.

The research activity of the ACTH group in the Ensba Lyon is geared towards graduate artists holding a Master degree, or its equivalent and who, in the context of their work as authors, wish to participate in individual and collective research, and to implement work adapted to its distribution. This work can only come from the pooling of individual research territories by theoreticians and artists. The group attaches great importance to the quality of individual work, its openness and the space allocated to experimentation and critical confrontation.

The current research of the ACTH

Since 2009, the ACTH research unit has questioned the shaping of history by the work of art, and a linear and progressive conception of historical time is challenged by the works of art themselves. How can works of art signal to forms of contemporary historic experience, notably those that challenge the figurability of the historic event, its possibility for elaboration and memory? How can they manage to seize the paradoxical temporality of certain historic events?
