Jan Voss at the Akureyri Art Museum

A retrospective of Jan Voss' works is on show At the Akureyri Art Museum. The title of this exhibition is With the Back to the Future.

The question 'what is an image?' is an underlying subject in Jan's Voss work. Although his unorthodox working methods have occasionally offered brief glimpses of what may have been answers, his inter media search is yet to reveal anything more than what would be a reflection of something else.

Jan Voss is born in Germany in 1945 and lives in Amsterdam. As a young artist he drew picture-stories, which he printed and published himself. He later joined forces with his friends Henriëtte van Egten and Rúna Thorkelsdóttir and for the past 30 years they have run the very unique underground bookshop, Boekie Woekie which sells books by artists.

On the occasion of the exhibition the Akureyri Art Museum and Boekie Woekie will publish the book: With the Back to the Future, by Jan Voss. The book is published in English, 160 pages. 30 Euros. ISBN 978-9979-9955-4-8.

An artist talk with Jan Voss will be in the Art Museum on Thursday March 19th at 5 – 5.45pm. Guided tours are offered every Thursday through the exhibitions in the Art Museum / Ketilhús at 12.15pm

The exhibition With the Back to the Future is open until May 10th 2015, Tuesdays – Sundays 12noon – 5pm.
