Kote Sulaberidze belongs to the first generation of Georgian artists who tasted the intoxication of freedom after the collapse of the USSR in the early 1990s. An extraordinary time when the strict ideological confines of socialist realism melted away into history, almost overnight.
The paintings and installations in Quiet Life present table surfaces filled with objects of everyday life and texts of random dialogues. The Georgian dialogues are selected conversations between the artist and his wife - also an artist.
This will be the first post-COVID exhibition at the reopened Contemporary Art Gallery of the Georgian National Museum - conceived in collaboration with the German artist, Caroline Bayer. Due to the global pandemic, she was unable to come to Tbilisi – an enforced quietness, that like the objects in the exhibition and the texts scattered among them, show that in the mind the experience of life is anything but quiet.
