Animate OPEN: deadline approaching

In partnership with QUAD and D-Lab, Okaku has been commissioned to make work for exhibition in QUAD's Extra Gallery Spaces and online, alongside the Animate OPEN gallery exhibition, opening 27 November 2015.

The Animate OPEN is for complete works by UK and international artists, animators and filmmakers, produced since January 2014. We will select up to 20 works for gallery exhibition at QUAD in Derby (from 28 November 2015 – 24 January 2016) and for a UK cinema touring programme. A jury will award an Animate OPEN Prize of £1,500. There will be a £750 Audience Prize. Artists included in the gallery exhibition will receive a £150 fee. Submission deadline is 3 September 2015. Submission fee is £10.

For the second Animate OPEN, Animate Projects and QUAD, Derby (UK) invite submissions of experimental single channel animation work that relates to the broad theme Parts & Labour. The exhibition will emphasise the craft – analogue and digital – of contemporary artists' animation practice and is intended to convey a sense of animation as something that is made and crafted – whether physically or digitally - and the cultural importance of the artist and maker.

The Animate OPEN is for complete works by UK and international artists, animators and filmmakers, produced since January 2014. We will select up to 20 works for gallery exhibition at QUAD in Derby (from 28 November 2015 – 24 January 2016) and for a UK cinema touring programme.

Works will be selected by: Abigail Addison and Gary Thomas (Animate Projects), Peter Bonnell and Michael Sargeant (QUAD), Adam Pugh (curator and writer, Artists' Moving Image Project Manager at the Independent Cinema Office), Maria Manton (producer and director, Munky).

The jury for the Animate OPEN Prize of £1,500 is: Louise Clements (Artistic Director, QUAD), Ruth Jarman (artist, Semiconductor), Chris Robinson (Artistic Director, Ottawa International Animation Festival) and Gary Thomas (Animate Projects).
