The Department of Art at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professorship in Art with a start date of June 30, 2016. We seek applications from individuals actively engaged in a contemporary art practice, working in any medium or across media, with a significant record of exhibition and or publication. 

Candidates should hold a MFA or equivalent degree in a comparable field and possess the breadth and expertise to teach approaches to art making in beginning through graduate level courses. A broad understanding of the history and theory of art that encompasses the practical and theoretical implications of contemporary practices is desirable. Successful candidates will participate in shaping curriculum and sharing the governance of the Department of Art.

The UCR Art Department is located in the Fine Arts Complex which has extensive facilities for art production, including: state of the art photographic and digital imaging equipment, full sculpture lab with CNC and 3d printing capacities, spacious painting and drawing studios, and video production equipment and editing stations. Our MFA program is non-medium specific and has recently moved into new spacious facility offering students private light-filled studios. The University is located 60 miles east of Los Angeles and therefore, has access to its internationally acclaimed art community.

Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input.

Applications must include cover letter, CV, statement of teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations, and a PDF of 15 images of the applicant's artwork.
