the central question to be addressed in akos birkas' class perception and everyday culture is how individual perceptions and our everyday visual culture are related. an important goal of the class is the development of the participants' painting technique, although other media and techniques are welcome. the participants should already have experience with artistic techniques and be prepared to engage in thought experiments in order to be able to gather creative impulses for later artistic work.

the class from the (mental) sketch to image, taught by oliver dorfer, provides experimental space to expand and deepen one's own pictorial language. elements from comics, street art, graffiti, film etc will be incorporated as symbols of our subjective and social lives in order to transform them into new building blocks of visual communication in contemporary painting. the goal of the class is to support the participants in developing their own criteria for artistic production.

tone fink's class from the line to the form and handi-craftily papering begins with the elementary medium of drawing. the students develop and expand their fantasies into the 3rd dimension. the stance is experimental, inquisitive and open. as the ideas are rich, the materials should be poor and simple. trying out different types of paper and deforming them through new modes of drawing, tearing them, cutting them…paper and cartons will be transformed into body-like forms and potentially performed.

's motto is 'painting is energy'. the participants decide for themselves how and with which materials they wish to work; individuality stands above all else. on the horizon of the group work stand: tracing one's own idiosyncracies and transferring them to the canvas through brushwork – bringing space into the piece, perfecting the play on the claviature of color, strategically using contrasts – learning to direct one's own energy: simply, full-blooded painting.

the class the double floor of painting, taught by aris kalaizis, embarks on the search for the pictoresque internal image. it deals with individual ideals; seeing bare reality leads to newly imagined worlds. these then appear, following the clarification of questions regarding composition, on canvas. class participants will rediscover the subtle method of oil painting. the correct primer, the effect of base coats, which pigments lend stability to the painting—all these fascinating processes will be investigated and transposed into painting.

elfie semotan
's class the female | the male (point of) view deals with the differentiated presentation and judgment of female and male free thinkers in historical and present-day conceptions through the use of a range of photographic mediums. how can these differences in photographic representation be translated in the contemporary context? the deliberate use of light, aesthetics, and the technical aspects of photography are just as important as addressing the content.

konrad winter
: graphic arts require a decision in order to clearly formulate a pictorial message, which is transmitted to a wider audience through reproduction. personally coming to terms with the students' concerns is the first step, after which practical modes of implementation are developed. experience in graphic arts may also be of value to painters. there are no prerequisites for taking this class. the taught techniques include gravure printing, letterpress printing and combinations.
