MASTER FINE ARTS DEGREE SHOW 2013
May 30, 2013 – June 15, 2013

We invite you to celebrate with us the fourth Master Fine Arts Degree Show at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) opening on May 29, 2013.

More than ever before, this year's show mirrors the expansive nature of a fairly young MFA program set out to bring together various practices across art and theory, local and international contexts, art schools and a globalized public. The degree show contains a wide range of works by 35 international and Swiss artists, including installation, time-based, performative, and artistic-research formats.

The works on display emerge from a specific point at the end of an open and experimental process. At its core the MFA encourages forms of collaboration, active self-organization and times of intensive reflection, all being part of a process. The result is not idiosyncratic in terms of a specific Zurich-style, but demonstrates the multifaceted outcome of a program aiming at accompanying artists and theorists on their way to self-responsibility, defining their methods and subject matters while pursuing their own artistic development. We think of the show as concrete expression of a process bringing out contemporary concerns of young artists and their singular ways of responding to the present.

The show is curated by Erik Steinbrecher and located on an empty floor of an office building across the road from the future home of ZHdK in the vibrant neighborhood of Zurich West. Various guided tours and events organized by the students will take place during the exhibition. The Master Fine Arts Degree Show 2013 not only endeavors to generate a specific exhibition format but also attempts to become a temporary space for encounter and exchange in Zurich's quickly changing city ward 5. The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication with a guest contribution of Wolfgang Ulrich (University of Arts and Design Karlsruhe).
