'I Am the Space Where I Am---Swiss Women's Contemporary Art Exhibition', hosted by the He Xiangning Art Museum with support of Pro Helvetia Shanghai and Consulate General of Switzerland in Guangzhou, will be held from May 27 to July 22, 2012 at the He Xiangning Art Museum with depicting 50 works of video, photography, performance, painting, installation, sculpture by ten representative woman artists. It aims to Introduce and represent the primary status of Swiss Contemporary Woman Art.

He Xiangning Art Museum is the national museum named after Ms. He Xiangning, the celebrated female artist in the Chinese modern art history. As one of is academic orientation, the museum is also dedicated to the focus, research and exhibiting artworks by outstanding women artists. Therefore, we try to host and curate this Swiss Women's contemporary art exhibition not only to reach the Swiss women's contemporary artistic creation via visit and exhibition, but also to reach a dialogue and exchange between China and Switzerland in cultural and art exchange because it is the first time for the artists to visit Shenzhen and show their works in China.

This exhibition is the first Sino-Swiss contemporary art exchange project in He Xiangning Art Museum. It aims to introduce and represent the primary status and developing history of Swiss women's contemporary art utterly to the Chinese Art field and the local public in Shenzhen. Meanwhile, it also tries to study the real situation and cultural focus of Swiss Women's Contemporary Art creation and to show their artistic concepts, methods, the inner demands, confusions, problems and questions they faced and their unique female experiences so that the uniqueness, differences and even barriers among foreign cultures will be understood in different degrees. The motivation of 'exchange' is not the transcendence and overcome of the mutual obstacles and barriers but the naturally deeper understanding and tolerance with each other in the exchange process.

This exhibition has received the help from the Swiss Embassy in China, financial supports from Pro Helvetia Shanghai and some Swiss friends with a passion for art as well as liaison assistances from Ms. Kuengolt Bodmer, Ms. Wu Xiaxia, Ms. Luo Mingjun and Ms. Caroline Nicod.
