The Florida State University Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Program is fully immersed in an interdisciplinary, research-centered environment. We offer outstanding, dedicated faculty and a rigorous curriculum. Our primary concern is contemporary art, and the practice, history, and theories that inform it.

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) is a three-year residency program.

Currently every MFA student receives an assistantship with tuition waiver and stipend.

Our graduate students have their own organization: The League of Graduate Artists (LGA)

All MFA students have individual studios in a spacious 13,000 sq. ft. warehouse with two installations rooms, a wood shop, metalworking, a ceramics labs, computer labs, common spaces and a mediated graduate seminar room.

The graduate program has two dedicated off-campus MFA exhibition spaces, known as the Working Method Contemporary, which is managed by the LGA.

FSU's College of Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance has acquired a new interdisciplinary building known as the Facility for Arts Research (FAR), which incorporates a range of digitally-driven tools for art-making, including the formLab and The Small Craft Advisory Press (SCAP)

We offer a dynamic visiting artist and scholar program with recent visits from Matthew Coolidge (CLUI), Brian Alfred, Willie Cole, Elizabeth Condon, and Swoon.

MFA students who wish to teach are trained in an intensive Pedagogy course and given support while teaching introductory courses.

Graduate students participate in annual trips to Miami Art Basel and other faculty-led trips including New York, Atlanta and London.

Florida State University is a Class I Research Institution located in the capital city of Tallahassee, Florida.

Fellowship and Meritorious Awards:

Two incoming graduates are selected for the $2,500 Florida POE Award (Peace on Earth).

The Fellows Society Adelaide Wilson Fellowship is a competitive leadership and merit-based university-wide annual $30,000 fellowship award given for a maximum of 3 years.

The Department of Art works with FSU International Programs to offer the Florence Teaching Award. Recipients receive airfare, a teaching stipend, money toward housing, travel expenses for field trips, and assistance securing a solo show in Italy.
