Engaging with Glass: Symposium will be held on June 21st ( 10:00am-4:00pm) explores ideas behind the artistic expression of works executed in glass media from curatorial and artistic perspectives. A reception and catalogue launch will take place at 6.00 p.m.

Speakers include, Dr. Brian P. Kennedy, Director of Toledo Museum of Art, Keynote,
Dr. Audrey Whitty Curator at the National Museum of Ireland; Susanne Jøker Johnsen, Director of European Glass and Ceramic Context Biennale at Bornholm Art Museum in Denmark; Paula Stokes , Peter Young, Kevin O' Dwyer, Catherine Keenan, Eamonn Hartley and Peadar Lamb. Mediators are, Dr. Nicola Gordon Bowe and Ann Mulrooney.

Engaging with Glass: Exhibition (June 7th- July 16th, 2011), presents a selection of contemporary glass artwork from artists working in Ireland and Irish artists working abroad. Following an international call for submissions, glasswork was selected for the exhibition by Dr. Audrey Whitty, Curator of Ceramics, Glass and Asian collections at the National Museum of Ireland and Tina Oldnow, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Glass at the Corning Museum of Glass, New York, USA. The exhibition features 72 pieces by 41 artists.

Engaging with Glass: Exhibition & Symposium forms part of a series of events that mark Ireland hosting the World Crafts Council – Europe, General Assembly and the Crafts Council of Ireland designation of Year of Craft 2011. These events are presented in partnership with Solstice Arts Centre, The Glass Society of Ireland, Meath County Council Arts Office and the Crafts Council of Ireland. Co-ordinators are Dr. Caroline Madden, Belinda Quirke and Deirdre Rogers
