Karel de Grote University College comprises six departments and is, with more than 10,000 students and 1,000 employees, one of the largest Flemish university colleges. Our innovative policy actively responds to changes in the field and guarantees first-rate education, in-depth research and a professional service. We are student and customer oriented, and commitment, flexibility and confident collaboration are central to our achievements.

The Sint Lucas Antwerpen department is home to some 400 students, divided into three academic master's programmes within the field of 'audiovisual and visual arts': Graphic Design, Jewellery Design – Goldsmithing, and Free Arts. A team of some 95 staff members contributes daily to the high quality level of education.

To steer Sint Lucas Antwerpen and help achieve the transition, in consultation with Karel de Grote University College, to a School of Arts Antwerpen, we are looking for a FULL-TIME Department Chair Sint Lucas Antwerpen (m/f)

YOUR FUNCTION

- You are the key figure in our institution who will give shape, from within Sint Lucas Antwerpen, to the academization process of university college arts education in Antwerp. Within the guidelines of the future School of Arts Antwerpen, and taking into account the university college's policy and the further development of art training programmes, you will set out a strategic plan, with our partners within the AUHA (Association of the University and University Colleges of Antwerp), for Sint Lucas Antwerpen as well as an accepted cooperation model.

- Your approach rests on the existing vision within Sint Lucas Antwerpen. You make sure that the policy develops and renews itself in response to the needs and requirements of the training programmes. The strategic plan must enable Sint Lucas Antwerpen to achieve in practice the objectives set in matters of education, research, personnel and infrastructure.

- You are an ambassador who convincingly wishes to fulfil the ambitions of Sint Lucas Antwerpen, our university college and the School of Arts. You build up good relations with other university colleges as well as with organizations, companies and public authorities, at an international level, too. You take part in the discussions on higher arts education in the consultative committee of the AUHA, the VLHORA (Flemish University College Council) and others.

- As chief decision-maker for the daily academic and administrative management of Sint Lucas Antwerpen, you coordinate the training programmes and supporting services. You create the work environment, framework and (project) structures necessary to achieve the objectives and you monitor compliance with internal and external reports.

- You report to the president and sit on the board of governors of Karel de Grote University College.

- You run the board of directors of Sint Lucas Antwerpen directly. The board consists of the deputy directors of academic and administrative affairs, the research coordinator and the three heads of the fields of study.

YOUR PROFILE

- You have a university degree.
- You have professional experience in managerial positions.
- You invest in personal and professional growth and you work on knowledge development and knowledge sharing.
- An asset: experience in the wider arts sector; experience in and/or knowledge of the field of education management; experience in the cultural sector.
- You have excellent strategic insight, you are open to innovation, and you have the necessary drive. You see change as opportunity and you wish to contribute to a clear and inspiring vision for the future of Sint Lucas Antwerpen. You supervise the implementation of the objectives and you always keep in mind the interests of students, staff members and the field.
- You are an inspiring people manager and a strong communicative coach, capable of stimulating a sense of team spirit and synergy among staff members: you are always mindful of quality, you offer growth opportunities and thus give the appropriate people the necessary responsibilities, motivate them and help further develop their skills. You facilitate and stimulate teamwork and knowledge sharing.
- Entrepreneurial, you seize opportunities and are not afraid to go down new paths.
- You have a network of professional relations within and beyond Karel de Grote University College while also creating new networks and cooperative agreements with added value for Sint Lucas Antwerpen and for our university college.
- As department chair you are the dynamic force in the fulfilment of our mission. You have an exemplary function within the institution.

OUR OFFER

- A full-time position (100% = 38 hrs. per week) within the statutory framework of teaching personnel (teaching position) or of administrative and technical personnel (grade A2-A3).
- A salary depending on your qualifications (university level) and length of service, supplemented by a mandate remuneration for the duration of the mandate of at most 20% of the gross basic salary (with an absolute maximum equal to the salary scale A41).

- Start date: as soon as possible
