Objectif Exhibitions presents...

Patricia Esquivias
Phoon, Phoon, Phoon

22 January - March 12, 2011

Patricia Esquivias (Caracas, 1979) creates videos that link images drawn from diverse sources, creating fragmented narratives that present interpretations of the everyday as well as historical events. Employing low-fi technology and a decidedly DIY aesthetic, Esquivias' videos may seem improvised and typically involve the artist filming herself as she clicks through slide presentations on her laptop or manually selects and displays photographs, computer printouts, handwritten notes, magazine pages, and other ephemera, which serve as visual references for her stream-of-consciousness monologues. Esquivias was invited by Objectif Exhibitions for a six-month residency in collaboration with Wiels Contemporary Art Center, Brussels, in 2010, during which she produced new commissions for her show at Objectif Exhibitions.

Patricia studied in London and San Francisco. Since 2005 she has shown at, amongst others, Galería Maisterravalbuena and Museo Nacional Reina Sofia, Madrid; Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt; 5th Berlin Biennale; White Columns, Murray Guy, and New Museum, New York; and Stedelijk Museum Bureau, Amsterdam. Esquivias usually lives in Madrid.

The exhibition is supported by:
Matadero (Madrid), Sociedad Estatal para la Accion Cultural Exterior SEACEX, Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores y de Cooperacion and AECID.
