November 19, 2010, Toronto, ON, Canada

Peter Sabat, Canadian visual artist and filmmaker, is pleased to present 'Vague Longings I-II,' the second installment of a series of new watercolor paintings, which opens on Friday November 19, 2010 as an online exhibition at www.petersabat.com, in association with the Peter Buckland Gallery, Saint John, NB.

'In July 2010, I exhibited the first installment of the series 'Vague Longings,' which traced 'a journey both imagined and autobiographical' through the Newfoundland landscape where I was living at the time: a combination of fog, myth and emptiness.

In this second installment of works, 'Vague Longings II,' my intention was to present a 'before' and 'after' to the previous works, in the manner of bookends. Consequently, these paintings, which draw on a broad range of material done in various media over the last ten years, complete this imagined and autobiographical journey.'

Peter Sabat has exhibited his paintings throughout Canada, the United States and in Europe. His works have been shown in commercial galleries, artist-run spaces and museums, including the NB Museum (Saint John), Beaverbrook Art Gallery (Fredericton), Galérie d'Art de l'Université de Moncton, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (Halifax) and the Canadian Embassy (Washington, DC). He studied painting and film at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto. Between 1997-2004, Sabat resided in Berlin, Germany, collaborating with artists and composers on films, operas, and art projects. 'The Inside Shore,' a solo painting exhibition, was held in Berlin's Haus des Lehrers in September 2000. His films with composer Walter Zimmermann have been presented at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Kunstmuseum Bonn, KNM Berlin's HouseMusik, and the Goethe-Institut Toronto. Other projects have been produced in association with composers Wolfgang von Schweinitz, Thomas Meadowcroft and Marc Sabat. His works have also been shown at the MaerzMusik new-music festival and the Deutsche Kinemathek in Berlin, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and the Art Institute of Chicago. 'AUTOMAT,' a video/music collaboration with brother Marc Sabat, was featured at Carnegie Hall, New York, as part of the 'Berlin in Lights' festival in 2007.

'Vague Longings I-II' is the second of several planned online exhibitions by Peter Sabat. The show continues through December.
