Swiss Institute of Rome
Exhibition Programme October-November 2009

The Swiss Institute of Rome, directed by Christoph Riedweg, continues its exhibition activity, curated by Salvatore Lacagnina, with three art shows dedicated to four artists belonging to the same generation, mainly Swiss by birth or residence, presented in three different spaces in Italy:

- Pamela Rosenkranz opens the art show Our Sun on Thursday 29 October 2009 at 6.30 at the Swiss Institute in Venice. Born in 1979 in Sils-Maria in Switzerland, the artist currently lives and works in Zurich. On the occasion of her first Italian solo show she will present new works closely connected to the city that investigate the relation that different cultures establish with our planet, revealing the ambiguity that lies in the concept of light, often linked to an idea of truth and faith. On parallel with the exhibition, a series of events centered on the city of Venice, curated by the artist, will also take place.

Born in Bütschwil, St Gallen, Switzerland, he works and lives in Basel and has won the Manor Prize 2009, the most important Swiss award for young artists. For this first Italian show the artist has conceived a series of new works for the Sala Elvetica. The catalogue will be published in collaboration with the Kunsthaus Glarus, that has exhibited the artist's works last Spring, and with Basel's Museum für Gegenwartskunst, where he will show his works in 2010.

La Rochelle, 1975, currently living in Paris), who will propose the video of a performance set within the space together with two new sculptures.

A special bilingual publication (Italian and German) will be dedicated to each exhibition.
The aim of the programme is to carry on a research within contemporary art like in a mobile Kusthalle making a journey in Italy through the projects of foreign artists showing their considerations upon the interaction with Italian culture, proposing new works specially designed for this project but also co-produced with other cultural institutions, like the luminous installation by Ticino-born Luca Frei on show in the Milan's premises of the Swiss Institute until 13 November together with the project 'In Other Words', realised by Milan's collective Peep-Hole in collaboration with Zurich's Kunsthalle.
