METROPOLIS M
No. 5 2009 / GAMES – with a FREE book of games

––––––––––––––––––––––––-------------------------

GAMES - MICHAEL PORTNOY; HARUN FAROCKI
In times when prevailing cultures and routines seem to be coming undone, art plays games – it was true for dada, Fluxus, provo, relational aesthetics, and it is true today. Together with New York artist Michael Portnoy and German artist and cinematographer Harun Farocki, we look at the many dimensions of the game in art. Joost Raessens, a specialist in game theory, pauses to consider the cultural and social implications of the omnipresent game.

FREE BOOK OF GAMES
We are pleased to offer a special Book of Games, with commissioned contributions by the artists Maria Barnas, Bik Van der Pol, Keren Cytter, Daniel Roth, Amalia Pica, Falke Pisano, Carla Zaccagnini, Aurélien Froment and Conditional Design.

GERMAINE KRUIP; ART & FASHION; ART IN INDONESIA
An in-depth portrait of Germaine Kruip in association with her exhibitions in Düsseldorf and Almere, and a provocative essay on the toilsome relationship between fashion and art, as well as a look at contemporary art in Indonesia.

UDO KITTELMAN; MORALITY IN WITTE DE WITH
Finally, interviews with Udo Kittelman, the new director of the Hamburger Bahnhof and the Neue en Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin, and Juan Gaitán, co-curator of the show Morality, at Witte de With.
